Congratulations are in order for a special group of girls that battled to capture the California State Championship in rainy Cathedral City. In the semifinal match against Tustin, they overcame a 0-1 halftime deficit by scoring 3 goals in the second half to win 3-1 and advance to the finals. In the championship they faced a tough Camarillo team, where Santa Monica scored the initial goal and led 1-0 at half. However, the girls were forced to come from behind yet again after Camarillo scored back-to-back goals. As they had done many times in these playoffs, coaches Gary Berry and Adam Jensen brought the girls together for one final push and the girls responded by tying the game at 2-2 with just a few minutes remaining. As you would expect from two high-quality teams, the game went to overtime where Santa Monica prevailed 3-2 to bring home the Championship.

We are proud of not only their victory, but how they demonstrated sportsmanship, teamwork, passion, quality soccer skills and winning the right way. Well done Girls of the U-12 Extra team and coaches Berry and Jensen!!!
