Referee Training

Santa Monica Region 20 periodically offers referee training courses that are FREE to Santa Monica volunteer parents (and players/siblings 12 y/o or older that want to learn how to referee)!!!  This Fall season we will be offering opportunities to take the basic referee class. There are two options, a shorter in-class session with online material to complete beforehand, or a longer full-day course that is all-inclusive with no online referee coursework to do beforehand. The “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)” is the shorter in-class option, but also requires prior completion of an online component consisting of 9 modules and a test at the end.  The “Regional Referee Full In-Person Course” is the longer in-class option. Please go to our Referee Training Course Schedule for upcoming referee training course dates and info.

In addition, for those of you that are going to upgrade your certification, there will be Intermediate Referee and Advanced Referee courses. Keep an eye out in the “eTrainU” calendar.  These are two-day courses and you must complete BOTH days.   There will hopefully be an opportunity towards the end of the Summer or Fall. Please go to our Referee Training Course Schedule for upcoming referee training course dates and info.

Note:  all Region 20 volunteers/referees are allowed to attend courses in other regions as well.  Region 20 will reimburse course fees.  Keep a receipt and submit it to the Regional Treasurer.

In addition to classroom training, all referees must have taken the Safe Haven course, CDC Concussion Awareness course, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest course.  These online courses are found at eTrainU. There is also another safety requirement called SafeSport.
