Turkey Tournament – is a Thanksgiving weekend-only tournament for players on Fall U10 to U14 teams.
What is a Turkey Tournament? The Turkey Tournaments are fun-filled 2 to 3-day tournaments taking place over the Thanksgiving Holiday (beginning Friday). According to the AYSO National website there are 5 tournaments offered in our area – AYSO Tournaments – American Youth Soccer Organization
Which Turkey tournaments will Region 20 teams attend? The goal is to send as many teams as possible to the same tournament. The preferred tournament is the Panther Shootout in Newbury Park – Panther Shootout Info (aysoregion42.org). U10 teams can also apply to the Arroyo Seco Cup Arroyo Seco Cup 2024 (ayso214.org) – this is open only to U10 teams. Extra teams should apply to the 2024 Region 13 Thanksgiving Tournament 2024 Turkey Tournament.
Player type – These tournaments are open to all U10 to U14 players registered and paid up for the current Fall seasons and interested in a competitive tournament experience. Players (and parents and referees) must be available for the entire tournament duration.
Player selection process – Interested players should attend the October 27th Spring/Turkey evaluation event, if possible and/or express interest in the Turkey tournament when signing up for the Event on inLeague. The selected Turkey coaches will use the evaluations to form the teams.
Coach selection process – The Spring Chairs have collected interest from Core coaches to coach a Turkey team. Depending on the level of interest in each division, more than one team per division can be created. We currently have coaches interested in coaching teams in the following divisions: B10, G10, and G12.
Can Extra players participate in Turkey tournaments? – Extra teams (or teams made up of only Extra players) can participate as whole teams in a Turkey tournament if no other Region 20 team in the same Division attends the same tournament. Individual Extra players wanting to attend a tournament as part of a core team can only attend if all other interested core players have been assigned to a team.
Practices are held in the weeks prior to Thanksgiving; more info to come from the coaches.
Fees are paid by Region 20. The Referee fee will be paid by Region 20 as long as the participating team fulfills the referee requirement. The team will reimburse Region 20 if the referee requirements are not met.
