The Turkey Tournament is your chance to dive back into the action with fast-paced, high-energy soccer over Thanksgiving weekend! ⚽️🔥
Players from U10 to U14 divisions are selected from a pool of interested Fall participants — both players and coaches. These pop-up teams are formed just for this tournament weekend, representing Region 20 in exciting, competitive events hosted by other AYSO regions.
It’s the perfect way to kick off the holidays with some serious soccer fun — and maybe a trophy or two!
🏆 What is a Turkey Tournament?
It’s a 2 or 3-day competitive tournament usually starting Friday of Thanksgiving weekend. Players face off against teams from other regions in a festive, exciting atmosphere. There are 5 local AYSO tournaments to choose from – check them out here: AYSO National Tournaments
📍 Where Do We Generally Go?
To keep things fun and build that Region 20 spirit 💛💙, we aim to send as many of our teams as possible to the same tournament. That way, players and families can cheer each other on and enjoy the weekend together!
- Preferred Tournament: Panther Shootout in Newbury Park
- U10 Only Option: Arroyo Seco Cup (great fit for younger players)
- EXTRA Teams: Region 13 Tournament
👧👦 Who Can Play?
- Players must be registered for the current Fall season (U10–U14)
- Must be available for the entire weekend
- All players, parents, and referees must commit to tournament participation
🔍 Player Selection
Players can express interest by:
- Attending the Spring/Turkey Evaluation Day, usually held in October
- Signing up via inLeague and checking the “Turkey Tournament” box
Coaches will use these evaluations to build competitive and fun squads!

🎓🎓 Coach Participation
Are you a coach ready to gobble up some fun this Thanksgiving weekend? 🦃⚽️ We’re looking for enthusiastic, committed Fall Core coaches who are interested in leading a Turkey Tournament team.
If you’re available and up for the challenge, let us know! Coaches must express their interest in coaching a Turkey team by contacting the Spring Chairs or indicating it during player evaluations or via inLeague.
Based on interest and division size, more than one team per division may be formed — so the more coaches, the merrier! 🙌
⚽ Can EXTRA Players Join?
- Yes! EXTRA teams may attend if no other Region 20 team is in the same division at the same tournament
- Individual EXTRA players may join core (fall) teams if there is room after all interested core players have been placed
📅 Practice Info
Turkey teams will hold practice sessions leading up to Thanksgiving week. Details will come from your coach!
💰 Costs & Coverage
- Tournament fees are covered by Region 20
- Referee fees are covered only if the team fulfills their referee assignments
- Teams will reimburse the Region if referee coverage is not met
