CORE

Our core program is the foundation for all the fun, excitement and learning that happens on the fields. AYSO is best known for our core program – it’s where the large majority of kids fall in love with soccer and make memories that will last a lifetime. There are six core values – or what we call AYSO’s Six Philosophies – that are the foundation of our core program, and all others: Everyone Plays, Balanced Teams, Open Registration, Positive Coaching, Good Sportsmanship and Player Development. These are the essence of AYSO and it all starts with Everyone Plays – no kid spends their soccer experience sitting on the bench. Every kid plays at least half of every game. Teams are put together in a way that makes playing soccer about the experience, not wins or losses. It’s not about blowing out another team with an unbelievable score; it’s about sportsmanship and learning to be the best possible team mate and opponent. Developing players is what we’re about, because soccer skills and life skills go hand in hand.

AYSO EXTRA

AYSO Region 20 will once again be offering AYSO EXTRA, a program for advanced players ages 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 looking for more competitive play and increased training. AYSO Extra will do this while retaining core AYSO values, including minimum playing time (Everyone Plays!) and a strong focus on player development. Our first year (2011) of the Extra Program in Region 20 saw tremendous growth in ability and success headlined by our U12 Girls team, which won the State Championship!

In addition, anyone can try out and trying out is free. Details regarding tryouts for the 2017/18 Extra season will be posted here when they’re finalized.  Tryouts will take place in late April – details regarding tryouts are posted on the Tryout Schedule page under the Fall tab. Participation on an EXTRA team will be by invitation that will be sent following the completion of tryouts, and will be subject to which teams are formed. While there is no guarantee, it is anticipated that one boys and one girls team will be formed in each of the following divisions: U9, U10, U11, U12, U13, U14.

SPRING SELECT & ALL STARS

Spring Select and All Star coaches will select the strongest players from the region who really want to play soccer and will make a commitment to the team for the duration of the spring season.  Spring Select and All Star teams will work together and play tournaments from January or February until May or June. Selected players from divisions U10 and above, who have met our attendance standards for the Fall Season and intend to continue with us for the following Fall, are eligible to participate.
(Upper Division Spring teams must wait until the end of the high school season to begin their spring tournaments).  We encourage as many teams as there are qualified coaches and committed players.

VERY IMPORTANT PLAYERS (VIPs)

AYSO is proud to offer a very special program for children and adults with physical or mental disabilities. Our players enjoy the beautiful game in a safe, fun environment with trained coaches and volunteers who facilitate an enriching experience that VIPs and their families will cherish forever.

Buddies (U12 and above players from other teams) assist during the games in which VIPs learn soccer while meeting new friends, having fun and increasing skills and self-esteem. Everyone enjoys the complete AYSO experience – team uniforms, scoring goals, cheering from the sidelines, and more! VIP games take place at Clover Park every Saturday at 10:30am from mid-September through Thanksgiving.

If you want to sign your child up for the VIP program, or have any questions, please contact Gina Hope at vip@ayso20.org. Parents of players interested in being buddies can sign up here.

CULTURAL EXCHANGE PROGRAM

In our cultural exchange program, select 12U-14U players travel as a team to a foreign country to learn about different cultures and geographic areas, and make friends through the universal language of soccer. In past years, teams have traveled to Sweden, Japan, and China.
