How to Become a Regional Referee in Santa Monica AYSO

1. Register as a referee in Santa Monica

  1. https://inleague.ayso20.org/inleague/registration/new-register.cfm
  2. Enter your email address.
  3. Click Proceed to Registration
  4. Complete the registration form.  Make sure you use your full LEGAL name; no abbreviations or nicknames. You need to complete all ‘*’ fields at a minimum.
  5. Under volunteer information check all applicable boxes.  Be sure and check Referee.
  6. Under Referee division, select each division that you will referee for if you want (not necessary).
  7. Click Create Parent Record
  8. If there is more than one referee in your family, click Create another Parent Account and repeat for each additional referee.
  9. That’s it!  You are enrolled as a Referee in Santa Monica AYSO

2. Take AYSO’s Safety Courses

If you have not already done so, you will need to take AYSO’s Safe Haven, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, and the CDC’s Concussion Awareness courses. They are offered through AYSO’s learning platform at “eTrainU”

In order to be current, you must have taken these courses during or after 2011.

To take the safety courses:

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Library” icon
  3. Click Safe Haven “view courses”
  4. Take the following courses online: AYSO’s Safe Haven – Online, CDC Concussion Awareness – Online, Sudden cardiac Arrest – Online
  5. Work your way through each module (including any test at the end).

NEXT: There are two different ways (courses) to become a Regional Referee–you choose which works for you: a “half-day” (steps 3 and 4) or “full-day” (step 5)

3. Take the On-Line Component of the “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)”

“eTrainU” offers the “Regional Referee On-Line Companion Course.” This includes an on-line course AND an in-class component for this Referee certification. To sign up for, and complete, the on-line course follow these steps (you must complete this in-line piece prior to coming to the in-class session):

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Library” icon on the left
  3. Click  REFEREEING View Courses
  4. Find and enroll in “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)”–take all 9 modules plus the exam at the end
  5. Then you’ll need to take the In-Class component (see below)

4. Take the In-Class Component of the “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)”

Santa Monica AYSO is offering Regional Referee training during the late summer and early fall. There may be other courses added later (but don’t wait!). Pick a date and go for it!  To take the course:

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Event” icon on the left
  3. Enter “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)” in the “courses” box. Any courses offered in Santa Monica should pop up on the calendar. If you see one that works for you click on it and enroll in that session. If you don’t see one listed, try x-ing out the “Region 20” in the “Regions” box, and find one that is convenient for you when they pop up. Register/enroll in the course that woks for you.

The in-person course is free if offered here in Santa Monica. If you do it in another region there may be a small fee which Region 20 will reimburse you for (save a receipt).

5. Take the “Regional Referee – Full In-Person Course”

Santa Monica (and other Regions) will offer the full-day, comprehensive, “Regional Referee – Full In-Person Course”  in the late summer/early fall. To take the course:

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Library” icon on the left
  3. Click  REFEREEING View Courses
  4. Find and enroll in “Regional Referee – Full In-Person Course”– its a full-day event! We’ll feed you, don’t worry!
