How to Become a Regional Referee in Santa Monica AYSO

1. Register as a referee in Santa Monica

  1. Go to InLeague.   https://inleague.ayso20.org/Main/login
  2. Log in by entering your email address and password.
  3. Click “Volunteer Registration” button and then click “Fall 2022” button.
  4. Complete the registration form.  Make sure you use your full LEGAL name; no abbreviations or nicknames.
  5. Under volunteer preferences, check all applicable boxes.  Be sure and check “Referee” so you receive our important emails.
  6. You will receive an email from our background check people at “Sterling Volunteers.” They will get back to you and their email will need a response.
  7. That’s it!  You are enrolled as a Volunteer in Santa Monica AYSO.

2.  Take the Regional Referee coursework. There are two different types of course to become a Regional Referee–you choose which works for you:

  • a) the “combo” — an online component and an in-person classroom component

  • b) the “full-day in-person course”

2a. The “Combo”–take an online component, the “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle),” and then the in-person classroom component of the training.

“eTrainU” offers the “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)” This includes an on-line course AND an in-class component for this Referee certification. To sign up for, and complete, the on-line course follow these steps (NOTE: you must complete this online piece prior to coming to the in-class session):

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Event” icon on the left
  3. Enter “Region 20” in the ‘Regions’ box.  Enter “Regional Referee – Online + In-Person Companion Course (2 Part Bundle)” in the ‘Courses’ box.
  4. Toggle through the months/days until you find a date that works for you. We will be offering the “SANTA MONICA-Regional Referee In-Person companion course” starting August 13th.  Once you find a date/time that works, click “Enroll.” (If you make a mistake and need to do a different date, you will need to unenroll from the course before you enroll in another.)
  5. Then you’ll need to take the online modules and test before coming to the classroom session.
  6. Then you’ll attend the in-person classroom session that you registered for. Upon successful completion you’ll get your tres chic referee uniform and equipment!

OR…….

2b. Take the “Regional Referee – Full In-Person Course”

Other Regions will offer the full-day, comprehensive, “Regional Referee – Full In-Person Course”  in the late summer/early fall. It’s a full day of learning the ropes. Some people like a full-day, in-person, kind of thing. We won’t be offering that in Santa Monica, but if you are interested, just delete “Region 20” from the ‘Regions’ box and you’ll see all the local Regions that are offering it. To take the course:

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Event” icon on the left
  3. Enter “Regional Referee – Full InPerson Course” in the ‘Courses’ box
  4. Find a place/date that works for you and take the full-day course. If there is a fee, Region 20 will reimburse you for it.

3. Take AYSO’s Safety Courses

If you have not already done so, you will need to take AYSO’s Safe Haven, Sudden Cardiac Arrest, Safe Sport, and the CDC Concussion Awareness courses. They are offered through AYSO’s learning platform at “eTrainU”

In order to be current, you must have taken these courses during or after 2011.

To take the safety courses:

  1. Log into InLeague using your email and password. Go to eTrainU by clicking on the “Graduation cap” icon in the upper right corner of your home page
  2. Click the “Training Library” icon
  3. Click Safe Haven “view courses”
  4. Take the following courses online: AYSO’s Safe Haven – Online, CDC Concussion Awareness – Online, Sudden cardiac Arrest – Online, Safe Sport
  5. Work your way through each module (including any test at the end).
