Referee Training

Santa Monica Region 20 periodically offers referee training courses that are FREE to Santa Monica volunteer parents (and players 12 y/o or older that want to learn how to referee)!!!  This Fall season we will be offering opportunities to take the basic referee class. There are two options, a shorter in-class session with on-line material to complete beforehand, or a longer full-day course that is all-inclusive with no on-line referee coursework to do beforehand. The “Regional Referee On-Line Companion Course” is the shorter in-class option. The “Regional Referee” course is the longer in-class option. Please go to our Referee Training Course Schedule for upcoming referee training course dates and info.

In addition, for those of you that are going to upgrade your certification, there will be Intermediate Referee and Advanced Referee courses, which will hopefully be held in August.   Please go to our Referee Training Course Schedule for upcoming referee training course dates and info.

Note:  all Region 20 volunteers/referees are allowed to attend courses in other regions as well.  Region 20 will reimburse course fees.  Keep a receipt and submit it to the Regional Treasurer.

Finding and taking on-line courses

In addition to classroom training, all referees must have taken the Safe Haven On-line course (found under the online courses tab at www.aysou.org) and it must have been taken in or after 2011.

The “CDC Concussion Awareness” course is also required (available at www.AYSOU.org)

The “Sudden Cardiac Awareness” course is a new requirement this year (and is also found under the Online Courses at www.AYSOU.org).

Returning volunteers, when logging in to www.AYSOU.org to sign up for a course, use your inLeague email and password.
