🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Volunteer Obligations

Each family with a player in the EXTRA Program is required to support both the EXTRA team and the broader Fall (Core) program of AYSO Region 20.

This is important because the Region provides substantial resources — including referee and field support — to EXTRA teams. To help balance that, each EXTRA family agrees to the following:

🔹 Core Program Volunteer Requirement:

  • A minimum of 20 volunteer hours to support the Core program (approximately 1.5 hours per week across 13 weeks).

  • Volunteering can take place in flexible blocks — it does not need to be weekly.

  • Ideal roles include: referee, coach, team manager, or administrative volunteer.

  • Training is provided! Visit the “Referees” tab on our website to learn how to get certified.

🔹 EXTRA Team Volunteer Requirement:

In addition to Core program hours, families are also expected to:

  • Support their own EXTRA team as needed (referee, team manager, event helper, etc.)

  • Encourage at least four team-affiliated referees per EXTRA team

⚽ Player & Parent Commitments

Being selected for an EXTRA team is an honor — and it comes with important responsibilities. All players and parents must agree to the following commitments:

🚫 Club Soccer Restriction:

  • EXTRA players may not play Club soccer during the EXTRA Fall Season.

  • Participation in both Club and EXTRA during the Spring Season may be allowed on a case-by-case basis with approval from the Regional Commissioner or EXTRA Program Director.

  • Violating this policy may result in removal from the team.

📝 General Expectations:

  • AYSO soccer must be your child’s first priority among extracurricular activities during the season.

  • Attend all practices, games, and tournaments (usually two practices per week).

  • Notify the coach in advance of any absences due to illness, injury, or emergency.

  • Submit all required payments for tournaments on time.

  • Parents who are certified referees are expected to help officiate tournaments; those who aren’t should assist in other volunteer roles.

  • Be a positive, supportive member of the team and community — on and off the field.

  • Represent Region 20 respectfully at all matches:
    – Be courteous to referees, opponents, and coaches
    – Follow AYSO philosophies and league rules
    – Support your coach’s decisions regarding positions, playtime, and tactics

  • Comply with the guidance and rulings of the Regional Commissioner, Tournament Directors, and Program Leadership.

⚠️ Consequences for Non-Compliance

Failure to meet the expectations above may result in one or more of the following consequences (with coach consultation and approval from the Regional Commissioner or delegate):

  • Reduced playing time

  • Removal from game/tournament rosters

  • Suspension from team activities

  • Ineligibility for future EXTRA or tournament teams

  • Other consequences deemed appropriate by Region leadership
