At AYSO, we believe every child deserves a coach who’s trained, confident, and ready to create a fun and safe soccer experience.

That’s why AYSO National requires that every coach be certified at the level they intend to coach — and we couldn’t agree more! Kids thrive when they’re guided by coaches who know how to teach the game in an age-appropriate and encouraging way.

🧑‍🏫 All Training is Provided — For Free!

You don’t need any soccer experience to get started. AYSOU (powered by eTrainU) gives you everything you need:

  • Coaching certification clinics
  • Safety and volunteer training
  • Age-specific guidance
  • Practice plans and development tools

Most courses are quick, online, and super user-friendly!

👥 Who Should Get Certified?

✅ Head Coaches
✅ Assistant Coaches (must be certified at the level they’re coaching)
✅ Team Managers are welcome too — the clinics are fun and helpful!

🎓 Accessing AYSOU (eTrainU)

Once you’re registered as a volunteer on inLeague, you can access AYSOU directly by clicking on the icon,

There’s no separate login — your inLeague account connects you automatically!

🚀 New to Coaching? Start Here:

  1. Register as a Volunteer on inLeague
    • Choose “Coach” as your volunteer role
    • Complete your background check
  2. Complete Required Safety Training on AYSOU:
    • Safe Haven
    • Concussion Awareness
    • Sudden Cardiac Arrest
  3. Complete Required SafeSport Training on U.S. Center for SafeSport site
  4. Sign Up for a Coaching Certification Clinic
    • View upcoming clinics in AYSOU
    • Choose a Santa Monica session if available — or attend a nearby region (e.g., West LA, Beverly Hills)

🛡️Complete Live Scan Fingerprinting

  • Required for all referees 8U and up (even if you’ve done one elsewhere).
  • Region 20 typically hosts a Live Scan session in August (TBD).

Live Scan fingerprinting is a one-time requirement for AYSO volunteers — it ensures compliance with California state law and AYSO National safety standards. ✅ Once you’ve completed it, you won’t need to do it again!

📝 Quick Facts:

  • ✅ Live Scan is different from the Sterling Volunteers background check — both are required.
  • 🔐 Your information is handled securely and used solely for screening purposes.
  • 🧾 The cost is covered by AYSO Region 20, and we host local sessions to make it easy.

Welcome back! Here’s what to do:

  • Renew your Volunteer Registration on inLeague
  • Update your Coaching Info (preferences, availability, shirt size, etc.)
  • Take a new certification if coaching a different age group
  • Keep safety certifications up to date

🕒 Training Timeline

  • Most certifications take just a few hours
  • You’ll join a supportive community of Santa Monica AYSO coaches
  • Certified coaches receive priority during team assignments in July
