Field Setup/Takedown Procedures

📋 Field Rules & Prohibited Items

❌ Not Allowed on Any Field:

  • Animals

  • Smoking or alcohol

  • Metal cleats

  • Permanent markers/paint

  • Bicycles, skateboards, scooters, or unauthorized vehicles

🚫 Additional Restrictions on Artificial Turf Fields:

  • Food or drinks (except water)

  • Gum or sunflower seeds

  • Staked equipment (e.g., tents, flags, goals)

  • Only chairs/shade structures with wide plates on the legs are permitted

  • Snacks must be consumed on adjacent blacktop areas only

⚠️ Please follow all field use rules. The City of Santa Monica monitors field usage and may impose fines or revoke permits for violations.


🌧️ Rain & Lightning Guidelines

Rain:

  • Always check field status before practice or games.

  • Fields may close due to rain within 24 hours, even if it’s sunny at the moment.

  • Field conditions can change mid-day; a field may open in the morning and close later.

Lightning:

  • Practice: Coaches and Chaperones are responsible for suspending practice if lightning is observed.

  • Game Day: The Referee is responsible for game-day lightning decisions.

  • When in doubt — err on the side of caution.

🔁 Practice Cancellations

Coaches:
If your field is open but you choose to cancel practice, please notify the Region Scheduler. This allows us to:

  • Reassign the field to another team

  • Update the City, so staff are deployed effectively
